Translated from an Article in Fake magazine, Madrid writer
Lola Fernandez Hernandez

1. What is "normal" for you? And beauty?

My children

2. It seems you are not very interested in what we all see?

That is true, i am more intrested in making people see images differently

3. Are you proposing another kind of beauty or simply showing anotherreality (does it matter if it's fake or not)?

I am showing a twisted beauty a non commercial beauty a reality you dare not embrace. I have always found it impossible to use real people with disfigurements because of access, there is always some obstacle, mostly some one normal saying i can not
photograph. But now i am creating work which takes the elements of distortion and pushes them further.

4. Do you consistently seek shocking images, do you intend to shocked people?

I suppose i do intend to shock but to shock deep in the soul a subtle shock that will stay with you.

5. The universe you show in your photos is so dark, sometimes even scaring... Let me pretend to be physiatrist : do you feel more close to these people than "normal" people? do you project the weird, the dark in you, in them?

That is a funny question i had never though of my photos as dark, they were just the ideas in my head until my girlfriend was shocked when she saw them and mentioned that word 'dark'. I feel the world is both dark and light, weird and normal I am just showing that part of the world.

6. On the other side, the images are so clean and luminous... The
contrast is terrific! It's a way of making them appear real?

It is the contrast that appeals to me the harshness and repulsion of the image, shot in a soft style with soft pastel colours the subtle shock. it also works to engage and confuse the viewer.

7. Are there two Larry's, the photographer (music portraits, fashion features...) and the artist? It's the photographer only the one that pays the bills?

My images feel so new and somehow so unacceptable to the commercial photographic industry that there is no choice but to be two Larry's I hope one day to be able to marry the two, my art and commercial together.

9. Why did you choose photography to express yourself?

Because you do not need to be able to draw, it is instant expression.

10. I like very much your movies. Any plans of doing videoart?

I am now working on more video, the greatest most amazing show i ever saw was Bill Viola at the Whitechaple. that would be my goal in video art
